The Montagu Kitchen London

The Montagu Kitchen at The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill

I visited The Montagu Kitchen located in Marylebone and part of The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill to review.

I was absolutely blown away with the incredible new menu alongside the welcoming, friendly members of staff who looked after us especially José and Gergana in the restaurant. Their extensive knowledge about the menu and the history behind it really made the experience alongside the tasty food!

The interior was impressive, clean and luxurious, we were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated immediately.

The two AA Rosette awarded Montagu Kitchen takes inspiration from Winston Churchill’s former residence, The National Trust’s Chartwell House and Garden in Kent. The menu reflects the changing seasons using the best of British produce including herbs taken from their very own rooftop herb garden which I thought was a lovely touch.

We ordered 2 drinks from the signature cocktails menu, The Lavender Sour Field with Chase Gin, Lavender Syrup, Lemon Juice, Egg white and the Roses & Apples cocktails with Hendricks Gin, Lemon Juice, Elderflower Cordial, Rose Water, Chartwell Garden Apple Juice which were tasty and refreshing.

We were then brought an amuse bouche which was edible soil, celeriac and tomato with shoots from the rooftop garden and was full of flavour leaving us immediately wanting more.

Then came the starters and a crisp, dry bottle of white wine. We had the salmon and the poached lobster. The salmon was cured for 16 hours using equal parts salt/sugar and came with pickled cucumber, confit tomato, radish, crispy skin (dehydrated in their own dehydrator downstairs and fried) and National Trust cider Horseradish mustard. It was delicious and the flavours from the mustard and pickles complimented the fish perfectly.
The very generous amount of poached lobster came with Samphire and potato salad, grapefruit, nasturtium, vanilla mayonnaise. They were both beautifully presented.

For the mains we went for Tiger prawns from the Beech and Oak charcoal fired Josper Grill and the Slow-cooked Lamb Cannon that came with Celeriac puré, broccolini, sundried tomato dumplings and lamb sauce. We ordered the smoked paprika and olive oil roasted potatoes and steamed seasonal vegetables on the side.

I can honestly say the tiger prawns were among the best I’ve ever had, they were cooked to perfection, meaty and had an amazing smoked taste to them from the grill. The Slow-cooked Lamb Cannon that came with Celeriac puré, broccolini, sundried tomato dumplings and lamb sauce was lovely and the tomato dumplings (which we had never tried before) are now a favourite!

Always having room for dessert we ordered the Raspberry Rose Bakewell Tart with Homemade English honey ice cream which looked and tasted amazing and the Montagu’s Sticky Date Pudding with vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce.

After dessert we were presented with an after dinner treat of port and mini meringue which was a lovely way finish to a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I would highly recommend visiting if you are a fan of Winston Churchill or good food!

Thank you so much to the incredible chefs/everyone at The Montagu Kitchen who looked after us for an amazing experience!
